Six months ago I made a commitment to myself to get back in shape. I wasn’t sure how I was going to accomplish this but I knew I needed to loose weight. When the gyms opened back up June 6th I came in weighing 235lbs. My knees were constantly hurting, and I was completely out of shape. Thank God for Kelly and Boombox Fitness! In the beginning, I was very intimated by the exercises and the weights. I couldn’t lift anything over 65lbs and couldn’t squat full depth and so much more. Many times I wanted to give up but the Boombox family was so encouraging throughout the process. As I began to “trust the process” and stopped focusing on what I couldn’t do, each workout became a little more doable. Before I realized it the weight was shedding off and I was getting stronger. Thanks to Jeremy and the wonderful 630am class, I am pushing myself to limits I never knew I was capable of. More importantly, the commitment I made to Boombox Fitness has transcended throughout my life. I am no longer worried about how long it will take me to finish a workout I now focus on completing the workout to the best of my ability. I no longer look at a workout and think it’s impossible because quitting is not an option. I no longer say what I can’t do, because I hear the words of Kelly, Damon, and Jeremy told me to “trust the process.” Today I am 55lbs lighter and so much stronger physically and mentally. The best is yet to come! I know I will only get stronger and better each day. If you are looking for gym you can go anywhere. However, if you are looking for community, family, greatness, and more Boombox Fitness is the place to be! 💜💜

My name is Tanis and I started CrossFit in September of 2015. I had been going to various global gyms for years before that, doing my own thing which mostly consisted of cardio because that’s what I was always told would help with weight loss. I would use some of the weight machines at this gym but with no programming or any real idea of what I should be doing.


In the Spring of 2015, I somehow started following a few women on Instagram that did CrossFit & lifted heavy weights. I remember thinking how awesome these girls were and how I couldn’t believe they could do the things they were doing. For months, I watch these girls videos thinking I could never do something like that. But I wanted to more than anything. After three months of talking myself out of trying to find a CrossFit gym in my area, I finally started doing my research.


I took the plunge and started CrossFit in September of 2015 by myself. I didn’t have any friends who were doing it and I didn’t have anyone who would start with me. I was so scared to try something new but I was so excited at the thought of it. I would say two years after starting CrossFit, I joined a barbell club within my gym. I like to think that, that barbell club really changed the way I viewed myself and my goals. But most importantly, it brought me closer to the now owners of BoomBox Fitness, Kelly and Damon.


My husband and I were working out & lifting with them probably 4-5 days a week (alongside some other pretty badass friends & lifters!). For years, I listened to them talk about their dream of owning their own gym one day. Once they decided to take the step to start out their own gym in the garage (shout out to the garage crew!!), I knew I wanted to follow them wherever they went. I truly believe in the Smiths, I believe in their dream and I believe they have the absolute best tools to help ANYONE who has a fitness goal/dream. I could list the number of things they have taught me over the years, but it would be a very long list.


I have always struggled with confidence, eating healthy, and comparing myself to others. This style of working out, weightlifting, this gym, and The Smiths have changed my life. I am a stronger person physically & mentally because of their guidance, coaching, and friendship. BoomBox fitness is not just a gym. It is a community. It is not just about working out. They give you the tools you need to become your best self. I will be forever grateful for them!! I will always recommend BoomBox for ANYONE at ANY fitness level. If I can do it, you can do it! My body does things now that I never thought it would be able to do. Anything is possible with a good support system & that’s what we all have here at BoomBox!! .

The winter picture in our clingy sweaters was taken a week or so BEFORE Thanksgiving so we hadn't even made it through the Holidays yet (yikes) but already knew at that point that we needed to make some serious lifestyle changes for our overall health and well being. We decided (as so many people do) that at the first of the year we were going to "get in shape" and as fate would have it Elaine discovered a new gym down the street from the house. Neither of us had ever attempted anything quite like the high-intensity strength and conditioning experience that we were entering into so there was definitely some apprehension but we signed up anyway because we thought something new was exactly what we needed. Right away we knew we had made the correct decision as everyone we met was very welcoming and made us comfortable from our very first class. As we started getting into a pretty good groove hitting the gym 3 days a week and beginning to get acclimated, slowly learning some of the exercises and movements, Corona hit and shut down everything. This is actually one of my proudest points as we easily could have sat back on the couch and said we'll get back into it once things open back up but thanks to the guidance you provided with your At-Home Workouts and online support (videos, zoom classes and everyone encouraging one another via social media) we persisted with our workouts and actually continued to lose weight and get in better shape as the weeks passed. Now that the gym has been back open for about 6 weeks we have "moved up" to more of the strength and conditioning side of the house and thanks to the efforts and guidance of our wonderful coaches have continued to see amazing results that not only keep us coming back for more but have put us so much further ahead than I would have ever dreamed we would be at this point. Now fast forward to the 2nd picture which was taken just yesterday and I can't thank you guys enough for all you've done for us with your encouragement, tenacity, and tough love pushing us to do more than we thought we were able to do in class by class. With that said over the course of these past 6 months, we have collectively lost right around 65lbs as a couple and look forward to continuing to work on ourselves to get where we always wanted to be with the help of our incredible BOOMBOX family. Thanks so much for everything you've done so far for us as we look forward to what else is still to come. See you at class tomorrow!
